Your lawn is more than just grass. Here are a few simple tips to help keep your lawn happy & healthy!
Tip #1
Have your sprinklers checked.
Good watering practices begin from the ground up. Irrigation is key. Dry, brown spots & wet, swampy areas are obvious signs of a problem but, even a well-designed sprinkler system needs regular tunes-ups.
Tip #2
Water early in the morning.
Less water is lost from evaporation, scrappy drift from wind is reduced, & water soaks deep into the soil for use in the heat of the day.
Tip #3
You better shape up.
Have your lawn thatched if you experience water runoff, dry spots that won't go away, spongy areas between grass & soil greater than 1/2" thick.
Tip #4
Fertilize less to save water.
You still need to fertilize, but do it in the spring & fall. Fertilizing stimulates root growth & decreases disease.
Tip #5
Mow sharp & at the right height.
Mow heights affect water conservation. It's best to mow when the grass has grown 1/3 taller & leave clippings on the lawn. Optimum cut height is 3".

A note about grass clippings that are left on the lawn:
They are tender plant parts that rapidly decompose
Improve water efficiency
Help recycle plant nutrients
Give the lawn a uniform green color
Clippings will not contribute to thatch
